Yahoo Inc.’s board plans to reject Microsoft Corp.’s bid to buy the Internet pioneer, The Wall Street Jornal reported on its Web site Saturday.

Board members concluded the unsolicited $44.6 billion offer massively undervalues the Web pioneer, a person familiar with the situation told the newspaper.

Here’s Yahoo’s reason it rejected the offer:

1. Yahoo thinks Microsoft is trying to take advantage of Yahoo’s weak stock price and is saying that Microsoft wants to “steal” the company.

2. Yahoo board member won’t consider offers below $40 a share, an extra $12 billion (quite the premium, considering the first offer was a 62% premium over Yahoo’s market value).

3. Yahoo is effectively stalling while it considers an alternative of partnering with Google (ironically, a point that nullifies the original point of Microsoft’s offer not taking into consideration “risks” of regulation, considering the risks of regulation are higher with Google).

4. Yahoo is hoping that Microsoft will not follow through with a hostile take over (even if Steve Ballmer said as much in his original letter). The reasoning here is that important engineers would not be willing to cooperate in a hostile take over, and regulators may be more easily convinced that this deal is anticompetitive if hostile.

The bid was made public Feb. 1.

The Wordpress Camp is in Dallas this year. I didn’t expect it to be on March which is quite inconvenient for me.

Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 9:30 am CT - Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 4:00 pm CT
Frisco, TX

Mark your calendars and plan on being in Frisco, Texas on March 29th & 30th for the largest gathering of WordPress bloggers, podcasters, designers, programmers and aficionados that Big D has ever seen.

For the uninitiated, WordCamp is an informal gathering of WordPress users where we teach, learn, eat, drink and generally have fun with one another. There have been dozens of other WordCamps all over the world, and now it’s time for the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area to have their own. But, believe me, there will likely be attendees from all over Texas… the Southwest… heck, the world!

Our WordCamp will be hosted by the wonderful city of Frisco in their fantastic, state-of-the-art city council chamber complete with cushioned, theater-style seating, plenty of power connections, WiFi, and A/V systems. We’ll also be providing coffee and munchies both mornings, lunch both days and t-shirts to take home (or to wear one or both days!)

Register now

Microsoft has offered to buy the search engine company Yahoo for $44.6bn (£22.4bn) in cash and shares. The offer, contained in a letter to Yahoo’s board, is 62% above Yahoo’s closing share price on Thursday.

The proposed acquisition, the largest ever by Microsoft, would give some relief to Yahoo’s long-suffering shareholders, who have seen the company’s stock slide nearly 32 percent this year. It would also create the most formidable competitor yet for Google, the search engine giant.

“It is a fantastic offer. It is game on,” said Colin Gillis from Canaccord Adams.

“This consolidates the marketplace down to Google versus Microsoft. These two companies will be going head to head.”

Be careful when you add the 9 digit code of your bank to complete this process so you don’t get fined 250 pesos. Check the Paypal Philippines Bank Codes and

Apple introduces MacBook Air. When will it arrive in the Philippines? That’s the question? and how much will it cost? So I knew that there would be a new model this first quarter of 2008 but still I don’t regret buying my black macbook.

Now introducing the world’s thinnest notebook, Macbook Air. What a beauty. What a thinnovation, indeed.

Sporting a silvery finish, the MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display that has a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. The backlighting saves power and provides “instant on” response from the moment you turn it on, according to Jobs. The device has a slightly wedge-shaped profile. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches. It’s 12.8 inches wide and 8.95 inches deep.

Read more? and Enhancing Its Hits, Apple Adds Movie Rentals, Ultralight Laptop

Based on the initial price of $1,799.00, I imagine the Philippines retail price to be in the range of 100,000 pesos and beyond. I don’t see the value of my money. If I visit the US this year, maybe I might buy the Macbook Air since it’s worth 71,960 in today’s peso-dollar exchange rate. I will update this soon for the latest pricing in Philippine pesos.

Once the Macbook Air arrives in the Philippines, where does one buy it? Here are the Apple dealers.

Philippines

1. Power Mac Center-
2nd Level Greenbelt 3, Ayala Center, Makati
Tel. (632) 729-7087 or 88 Fax (632) 729-7128
Email: info@powermaccenter.com

Where to find other Apple Mac Distributors in the Philippines:

Click this to view more Authorized Distributor / Dealer / Service Providers / AppleCenter in the Philippines or you can buy the lowest price from Longbeard

So watch out for their prices once Macbook Air arrives in the Philippines.

One of the most popular browser I used in 1996 was Netscape but it will soon end.

Netscape Navigator, the browser that launched the commercial Internet in October 1994, will die on February 1, 2008. AOL, which acquired Netscape in November 1998 for $4.2 billion, will announce today that they will discontinue development of the browser, currently on version 9.

AOL’s focus on transitioning to an ad-supported web business leaves little room for the size of investment needed to get the Netscape browser to a point many of its fans expect it to be. Given AOL’s current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it’s the right time to end development of Netscape branded browsers, hand the reins fully to Mozilla and encourage Netscape users to adopt Firefox.

Q: What will this mean?
A: We’ll continue to release security patches for the current version of the browser, Netscape Navigator until February 1, 2008. After February 1, there will be no more active product support for Navigator 9, or any previous Netscape Navigator browser. This includes Netscape v1-v4.x, Netscape v6, Netscape v7 Suite, Netscape Browser v8, and Netscape Navigator/Messenger 9.

SAN FRANCISCO–Low-cost computers meant to usher poor children worldwide into the digital age are being mass produced in China as US nonprofit One Laptop Per Child strives to deliver on its promise.

The first of the XO laptops being built at a Quanta Computer facility in Changshu are destined for Uruguay, marking a milestone for the charity group founded by Nicholas Negroponte in Massachusetts two years ago.

“Against all the naysayers … we have developed and now manufactured the world’s most advanced and greenest laptop and one designed specifically to instill a passion for learning in children,” Negroponte said.

A challenge for the organization has been that governments have not backed effusive words of support with willing flows of cash to buy laptops for children inside their borders.

It is hoped that a “Give One Get One” (G1G1) campaign starting Monday will boost orders by providing an incentive to people in more prosperous countries.

For every laptop donated for a child, the donor gets a laptop. The original price was to be US$100 per laptop but nearly doubled as costs climbed after Negroponte launched the initiative in 2005.

I wonder when the laptop allocation will arrive in the Philippines. Thing is there should be wi-fi access for these kids to be empowered with their learning experience. I hope to buy one.

After a lot of bloggers wrote their speculations regarding the downgrade of their page ranks, it appears that there is a<a href="http://andybeard.eu/2007/10/pagerank-update-2.html>Real Page Rank Update. I find it unfair that one of my advocacy sites, Touched by an Angel was downgraded from a Page rank of 5 to PR 3. I am not out to make huge profits from this advocacy site, just enough to let me fund my grief support group The Compassionate Friends through sponsors. Before Google starts to penalize sites, they should just consider the following:

1. Google adsense does not rake in a lot of income for grief advocacy.
2. Advocacy sites like mine give benefit to the public especially those who need comfort. I offer unique content.
3. Using my blog to generate funding is a means to support my grief advocacy group.

Money blogging sites continue to reap in high Page rank sites because they are popular to a lot of readers. My grief advocacy site is just starting and I want to rank in high so that bereaved families can easily find my site.

Dear Google,

why penalize my Grief recovery Bloge when I am just doing a service to bereaved families? If ever you think I deserve to have a low page rank, just make sure my site can still be searchable. That’s all I ask.
